5 Tips for Better Skin This Summer
Summer is finally here and it’s time to get outside! Whether you’re gardening, hitting the beach, walking the dog, playing a sport, or enjoying patio dining, enjoying time in the sunshine is an important part of the season. As part of your overall wellness routine this summer, you need to be careful to take good care of your skin. Your skin is the largest organ in your body; subject to damage all year round, but never more than in the summertime. Following our tips for better skin this summer will help you look and feel your best for years to come.
Wear Sunscreen
The single most important thing you can do to protect your skin during the summer is to wear a mineral based sunscreen. A proper sunscreen contains titanium and or zinc. Titanium and zinc are the important ingredients to prevent skin aging and cancer.
You should use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 for appropriate skin protection; apply it in an even layer and rub it in at least 10-20 minutes before you go outside to ensure that it’s had time to properly absorb. Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours or so to reinforce your protection – more often if you are swimming or sweating. Our tinted sunscreen contains titanium and zinc, the tint prevents the white cream look.
Use Lightweight Products
You wear lightweight clothing during the summer months; similarly, your skincare products should be more lightweight during warmer months. Swap out your heavier creams and cleansers for more gentle, non-greasy options.
Our lightweight moisturizer, Satin Seal, can also help prevent clogged pores, acne, and inflammation, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. A lightweight moisturizer will keep the outer layer of your skin protected and nourished without feeling too heavy.
Limit Your Shower Time
Between beach days, outdoor workouts, and regular summer sweat, many people shower multiple times a day during the summer. Experts recommend keeping showers short during this time of year – around five minutes. Over-showering, or showering in water that is too hot, can dry your skin out, which leads to inflammation and can even cause summertime eczema.
Exfoliate
Proper exfoliation is the key to bright and smooth skin. It removes dead cells and debris, which prevents the skin from breathing and causes congestion. Use a natural exfoliation product, like our Microdermabrasion Cleanser, and be gentle when using it; over-exfoliating can bruise your skin and could cause rashes. If you have sensitive skin, opt for a mild product that treats your skin with tenderness. These products work for your whole body, not just your face.
Hydrate
During this time of year, your skin requires more hydration efforts than during other seasons. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water per day, which can help keep your skin healthy and help it recover after a sunburn. You should also focus on moisturizing; invest in a good-quality moisturizer, like our Satin Seal or hydrating face mask to repair, hydrate, and soothe your skin.
Enjoy Your Summer!
In addition to drinking plenty of water, keep yourself protected from harsh sunlight this summer by staying in the shade whenever possible and wearing protective clothing like wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and proper coverage. You should also choose the right skin care products to keep your skin fresh, clean, and hydrated. Taking proper care of your skin will help you look and feel younger and more vibrant for years to come!
